About

A Canberra-rooted journal of the things people make, the places they gather and the habits they share.

The premise

Culture isn’t only what hangs in galleries. It is also the invitation that says “bring a plate”, the book club where nobody talks, the room you keep going back to. Standing Invitation looks at the things people make, the places they gather and the habits they share, starting in Canberra.

Every story should be worth reading even if you never buy what the publisher makes.

Who publishes it

Standing Invitation is published by My Sister's Kombucha, a kombucha company starting out in Canberra (Coalescent Pty Ltd · ABN 18 698 376 242). The publisher pays for the journal. It doesn’t decide what counts as a good story, and nobody featured is endorsing the drink.

Standing Invitation is a Canberra cultural publication. Pieces credited to the Standing Invitation desk are written by the publisher.

How we work

  • Every piece shows its status: idea, researching, draft, fact-checked or published.
  • Opinion is labelled as opinion. Reporting names its sources and the date they were checked.
  • Guides list only what we have confirmed with the organiser, and say when each entry was last checked.
  • Charts and diagrams always come with the same information as text.
  • We don’t use AI-generated photographs of people, places or products in the journal.

Working with contributors

Featuring someone’s work starts with their agreement: which files, where, for how long, the credit, any crops and any fee. A public portfolio is not permission to reproduce. Contributors are never asked to buy, post or link in return. Pitch us.

Sponsored and featured work

The journal has no sponsored content. If that ever changes, sponsored pieces will say so at the top, in plain words, before the first paragraph.

Corrections

If something we published is wrong, we fix it and note what changed and when, at the end of the piece. Write to alpha@mysisterskombucha.com.
